Meningitis Surveillance Report
Report of “2025-05-07”



During the 2025, 92 meningitis patients were reported. Following investigation, 55 were bacterial and 35 were viral, while were unspecified. The incidence for the past 52 weeks reached 5.3 per 100,000.
Among the bacterial meningitis, 0 were due to Neisseria meningitidis, 0 due to Haemophilus influenza, 29 due to Streptococcus pneumoniae, 3 due to other pathogens and 23 due to bacterial with unspecified pathogens.
As per the age groups, the highest rates were observed in: 00-04y (4.1/100000), 65+y (2/100000) and 05-14y (1.4/100000). On the other hand, 58.5% were male. As per nationality, 81.5% were Lebanese, and 14.6% were Syrian.
Across the mohafazas, the highest rates were observed in: Bekaa (2/100000), Nabatieh (2/100000) and Baalbeck Hermel (1.8/100000).
